Heat from wood - fine dust emissions

Welcome to the webpage, presenting the research project enhanced by the Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit (BMU).

Heat from Wood – Fine Dust Emissions: Impact of combustibles, users, Combustion-Competition, secondary action, characterization and toxicity.

Within the research project there are a lot of important tasks to be considered. The ostensible points are e.g. the efficient energetic usage of biomass within a combustion process but especially the “Fine Dust Emission through small Biomass Combustions” needs to be put into focus.
Mainly you can differ between two parts characterizing the efforts of this project.

There are the practical trial phases which are important for the achievement of whole and extensive images considering the subject “Fine Dust” itself. Another aim of the project is to advance the cooperation between different institutions so that the research partners are able to benefit from each other’s particular knowledge.

The intention of the following pages is to inform about the planed steps of the project but also to increase the understanding for the subject biomass combustion and fine dust emission.

On the right hand site you can see a photograph taken by an electron-microscope. The picture shows a certain step of segregation for particles larger than 10 μm used in a pellet combustion. (25,000 times enlarged) Source: DBFZ
